The Early Intervention Program of New York State is a public program for children under the age of three who have special needs. Children with diagnosed conditions that lead to developmental delays are eligible for this program. In addition, children who do not have a diagnosis but who have significant delays in development may also be eligible for services. All services that are authorized by Suffolk County are provided at no cost to you. Your child’s health insurance may be used to cover some of the costs. All other costs for these services are paid for by Suffolk County and New York State. The Early Intervention Program of New York State does not pay for day care or other fees charged by community settings.
Only state approved evaluators such as NIS who are under contract with Suffolk County can determine eligibility for this program. If a child is found eligible for services, an individualized service plan will be created for the child by a team including the parents, and a representative of Suffolk County. This representative will arrange for providers to deliver the authorized services. |
