Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy focuses on a child’s small muscle, including their fingers, hands and upper extremities. OT is provided to improve sensory, visual and fine motor skills as well as daily living skills. Among the main strategies used are Therapeutic Listening and Assistive Technology.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy intervention is aimed at improving a child’s large muscle development. PT is provided to improve balance skills, body awareness, coordination skills and muscle tone and strengthening. This all helps children successfully negotiate their environment.
Speech Language Therapy
Speech therapy provides intervention in many different areas of communication including articulation, phonology, language delays (expressive and receptive), auditory processing, oral motor difficulties and feeding. Many techniques are used, including augmentative communication.
Psychological Services
Psychologist and social workers work with children to address any emotional and behavioral issues that may arise.   These may include attention difficulties, impulsivity, aggressive behaviors, anxiety, or poor social skills. Services can include:
Play Therapy - Allows a child to “play out” their experiences, problems and feelings with the use of toys in a safe environment with a trained therapist.
Class Room Intervention – Therapists work with a child and their educational team to provide experiences and interventions within their classroom that will lead to positive social interactions and appropriate behaviors.
Parent Counseling – Parents are offered the opportunity to meet with a therapist individually or in a group, to gain support, education and behavior intervention strategies.

Music Therapy
Music therapy uses singing, musical games, instrument use and music listening to improve attention span, eye contact, social skills and communication.
Nursing Services
A full-time nurse is available to all children at NIS. Nursing services can be provided as per a child's Individualized Education Plan.
