PARENT
PROGRAMS
The
involvement of parents is one of the founding principles of NIS. We provide
a variety of programs for - and initiated by - parents.
Parent
Education Programs
Topics such as child development, behavior management, the Committee on
Preschool Special Education, transitioning from Early Intervention (EI)
to preschool to kindergarten are offered during the day and in the evening.
These topics are chosen, based on responses to a parent questionnaire.
Special School Programs
All children participate in a monthly "Special Event" which
focuses on a curriculum theme such as science, animal friends, and community
helpers. Families are invited to join in the fun!
Family Events
- Holiday Sing-Along, and Cookie Exchange Night are among the early evening
social events offered.
Parent Counselling and Support Groups
- Offered individually and in groups. Groups meet weekly. Community referrals
are made upon request.
Class Parents
- Assist the teachers on trips, and special projects; serve as a liaision
to the parents in the class.
Parent Association
- Plans and assists in funding raising activities; provides important
feedback about school and concerns. Serves as a link to new parents coming
to NIS.
